Press Release:The two-party system signifies a more mature democracy

Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has been appointed as the coordinator of Pakatan Rakyat to form a formal coalition for the Pakatan.

The formation of Pakatan Rakyat as a legal entity will mark the beginning of a two-party system in Malaysia. There will emerge a multiracial mass-based political coalition capable of challenging and replacing the Barisan National as the government of Malaysia.

Such a two-party system will offer a more level field for political competition in Malaysia, provide better representation of the interests of the rakyat, expand the democratic spaces necessary to protect of the rights of the people, and at the same time force the implementation of the much overdue reforms in the Barisan National which has so far refused to listen to the people as it holds on to its monopoly of power at the central level.

We see the efforts of Datuk Zaid Ibrahim in forming a legal entity for Pakatan Rakyat as a first step towards the realization of the two-party System for Malaysia. We have therefore asked him to speak to us about his work and his vision of the two-party system of Malaysia.

We keenly look forward to your participation in this coming forum.

Thank you.
