Press Release For Sembang-Sembang Forum by YB Sim Tze Tzin (Adun, Pantai Jerejak)
12 Sep 09
Selamat pagi dan selamat datang.
And first of all thank you saudara, saudari for attending this press conference.
This Press Conference is called to announce that I am going to start organizing a series of talks and Forums in my constituency of Pantai Jerejak. This will be a regular program taking place on every first Sunday of each month. It will be called The Sembang-Sembang Forum.
Sembang-Sembang means having casual conversations. In the process we like to offer a platform where all are welcome to participate as we would sit down and chat in coffee shops.
Issues for Discussion
We would like to discuss social issues we face daily. Many such issues have surfaced recently as our society is going through rapid changes. Our society is in a state of transition.
We would like to understand these issues better. One of the best way to achieve this is to hear directly from persons involved and to ask them questions. Each forum session will have invited speakers well-versed with the topical subject of interest. After hearing from the speakers participants will be invited to ask questions and they can also offer their views and suggestion on the subject being addressed.
The Outcome We Want to Achieve
This free flow of exchanging ideas will help us achieve a better understanding of the issues. We also hope that this process will promote mutual understanding amongst the different ethnic communities within Malaysia.
We also feel that such social issues can be better understood if we examine these issues through a free and open discussion as we are a multi-racial, multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-sectoral society.
Through attaining a common understanding on such social issues, we hope that a consensus can be reached and any proposed solutions can be acceptable to most, if not all, Malaysians.
Siapa yang sembang? Who should sembang?
All. The rakyat, the community, the non-governmental organisations, the experts in various fields, the government authorities, and the prominent leaders of our country.
We hope to give everyone concerned a voice in this forum.
Mari-lah sembang-sembang! Come, let's sembang!
Let us better understand one another so that we can build a Malaysia that is just, democratic, progressive and united.
